Cape May Nj, Cape May Nor'Easter

A major nor’easter hit the East Coast on Sunday morning and continued through Tuesday with high winds and gusts up to 50mph.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency, suspending all trains and buses and restricting travel on highways.

Weather forecasts for the state are predicting anywhere from 7 to 14 inches of accumulation.

This is a major, slow-moving storm that began buffeting the coastline by Sunday morning and will continue to hammer the shores into Tuesday.

Governor Murphy closed all six of New Jersey’s mega vaccine sites for COVID-19.

In addition to the COVID-19 vaccination closures, the governor also warned municipalities that the storm could cause major power outages throughout the state.

Many of the county roads are being treated with salt brine and magnesium chloride-treated rock salt to prevent the snow and ice from creating ice slicks on the roads, especially at night.

As stated, over the 48-hour period, snow accumulation is expected to produce between 7 and14 inches, depending upon how close to the shore the counties are. Counties in the northern region are expected to see accumulations well over a foot. Toms River appears to represent somewhat of a cutoff line between the heavy snow and sleet and rain.
