Gov. Murphy is looking to cash-in to the tune of $80 million on marijuana sales by 2020. His thinking is that since the substance is already being sold on the black market, it represents a chance to take the State’s fair share of the pie. No only that, but the State would save possibly millions a year on not having to prosecute for possession marijuana. According to the governor’s state budget proposal, Murphy expects $60 million in legal weed revenue and $20 million in medical marijuana revenue. But some of that revenue may go up in smoke because of a myriad of towns outlawing marijuana sales.
