Yes, it was the sounds of sirens that were heard all over the Jersey Shore this weekend. In Belmar New Jersey, there were 35 swimmers who were pulled from the dangerous surf over this weekend. A High Rip Current Risk was in effect at all Jersey Shore beaches on Sunday because of Hurricane Maria to the south.

According to reports, since late May, at least 27 people have lost their lives in accidental drownings at swimming pools, lakes, rivers, and the ocean along the coast of New Jersey.

The crowed beaches, perfect summer-like weather and cool, refreshing water to many posed a temptation they could not resist.

From Asbury Park to Belmar, the sirens of the ambulances unfortunately were playing up and down the shore.

According to a report on the NJ.com website, “The rescue team made a save near 7th Avenue, and minutes later, another at 17th Avenue. While there, they saw three other people — a father, his young daughter and an older man — who needed saving.”

There were a number of reports of drownings: one in particular was a Piscataway man who drowned in Long Branch’s Seven Presidents beach. Another drowning was reported of a 44-year-old Ocean County woman, who died after being pulled out of the ocean at the O Street beach in Seaside Park.
