Historic Amboy Theater Torn Down
We have passed this entertainment monument on the Garden State Parkway for years. And now, finally, the historic Amboy theaters located in Sayreville, New Jersey are being demolished by Middlesex County. The theaters were originally opened in 1979 and were closed down in 2005.
The problem with the multiplex was that they discovered there was a sinking floor issue that was potentially dangerous. The building was abandoned by the owners at the time it was closed down in 2005. The property site is comprised of 19.5 acres and three buildings.
The site is located alongside of the Driscoll Bridge, which is parallel to the Garden State Parkway and Route 35 Route 9. It represents a high-visibility, high-profile site where commercial structures such as retail stores, office buildings, and hotels could possibly be built.
