Rumors of Berkshire Hathaway Sale to Compass Persist Despite Denials
A recent rumor suggests that Compass is in advanced talks to acquire Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, although Gino Blefari, CEO of HomeServices, has vehemently denied the news via email. Despite this denial, the rumor remains, partly due to The Wall Street Journal standing by its report and Compass’s lack of comment.
If such an acquisition were to occur, Compass could potentially gain a 15% to 18% national market share. Some speculate that Blefari’s denial might be a strategic move to either negotiate better terms with Compass or attract other potential buyers, such as Apollo Asset Management and Stone Point Capital. However, Steve Murray, founder of RTC Consulting, believes this approach is unlikely and awkward.
Alternatively, Brad Clayton, founder and president of ClaytonWolf Group, suggests that Blefari’s denial could be aimed at stabilizing their network while discussions continue, assuming the rumors are true.
