Changes for the Anchor property tax program in New Jersey. The State Treasury Department will send a notification on August 19th to one and a half million New Jersey taxpayers, letting them know that the Anchor applications will be filed automatically. Obviously, this is some good news. The notices will tell homeowners and renters about the eligibility information that they have already on file and they don’t need to do anything more to receive the benefits.
Residents who didn’t receive any kind of notification by August 26th, can get an application packet in the mail. The application must contain the same information as last year. If any of it has changed, the applicants have to get a brand-new application in by September 15th, 2024. The website to apply for a new Anchor benefit is anchor.nj.gov. New applicants will have to verify their identity by using an ID.me protocol. The New Jersey Treasury Department is looking to eliminate the need to file paper applications. But for those who choose not to do an online application, a downloadable application is still available.
The deadline to file new applications is November 30th, 2024, which is a full month earlier than last year. The Anchor payments that are referred to are based upon the tax year of 2021, and will pay up to $1500 to homeowners and $450 to renters. Senior homeowners and renters get an extra $250. If you need help with the application, you can call the App Anchor Hotline, which is 888.238.1233 or 609.826.4282.
