Time to Recalibrate Your LinkedIn Profile

Your profile should attract potential clients, and if you are actively seeking new employment, get them to want to contact you.

Your LinkedIn profile isn’t just a social media tab, it should demonstrate a strong personal brand and establish you as an expert. Here are some of the best practices you can use to sharpen your profile.

Only include relevant work experience.
These days, much of a job description is not about position but outcome. This may include your history of involvement in local community outreaches, and with libraries and food drives.

Highlight key accomplishments, projects and results. If real estate is all about location, location, location, LinkedIn is all about results, results, results.

Your results should demonstrate what a client or employer will get when they “open the box.”

Be sure to list skills and accomplishments (especially in dollars).

Only use active language and an active voice: An active voice demonstrates ownership and keeps the reader’s interest because it reflects what THEY CAN EXPECT!

Focus: be concise and highlight the most important information. Write in short sentences. Demonstrate that you value their time.

Multimedia content: YouTube, articles, images, and other materials can bring you to life.

Avoid cliches and yadda–yadda speech, e.g., “Provided leadership and team-building skills to the department.” BORING!
