There’s no getting away from it, video is here and if you don’t embrace it you probably won’t be able to compete in the New Normal of Business.

150 years ago, it was a select group of people who found a fascination with this contraption called a camera, which looked like a gift box except with a black glass-eye in the middle of it.

Well now it’s 2023 and everybody in the country walks around with a phone and a camera populating Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok with 3 billion images a day. So here is a quick tip: video is here to stay but you might not be, unless you understand how to be comfortable with the camera, specifically in front of one.

The video below will help you with some tips on increasing your comfortability with being on camera.

But here are some tips that are not included in the video:

1. Video is like playing golf; no one gets on the golf course and hits a hole in one every time. You may never hit a hole in one, but that doesn’t stop you from playing golf. Golf is a game of connections with those you’re playing with. Video is like golf except you can play with a lot more than three on a tee.

The first time you swing your club, the probability of you hitting a ball are 1 in 10. The same thing with shooting a video; it may not turn out so good the first time. That doesn’t make you bad; it only emphasizes the importance of getting more comfortable with the club and focusing on the ball. In video, the more you focus on the message and remember the audience that needs to hear what you have to share, the better you will get. You’ll get so good that your friends and your viewers will end up telling you, You hit that one out of the park!

2. Before you get on the video, write a letter to one person that you know is going to be transformed by what you have to say. Write that letter. What did you tell them? Was it good enough for them to keep your letter on top of their desk? Make sure your messages are good enough to keep on top of the pile!

3. Okay now for the external attributes of a video. Make sure your hair is combed. Make sure you shaved. Make sure you put on your makeup for those female video stars. Is there enough light? And now how is your background? What does your background tell people looking at the video? If it looks boring, it will communicate that you are a boring speaker to your audience. If it is organized, it will communicate your organized to the people looking at the video. And if it looks appealing, then your audience will begin to say maybe this person has something meaningful to say to me.
