The natural gas pipeline has initiated construction in Ocean County. The crews began digging in December, creating a second connection between New Jersey Natural Gas network and the interstate transmission lines.

The new pipeline is expected to be operational in 2019. The utility customers seem to be the ones who will ultimately end up paying for the cost of the pipeline, which is expected to be between $180 million and $215 million.

As New Jersey is one of the more eco-friendly states, there are expected to be additional legal obstructions that will look to derail the project. Any pending litigation does not seem to be able to stop the construction project from moving forward.

The pipeline, which is a 30-inch natural gas transmission line, is necessary, according to the company, to back up the source of natural gas to more than 1 million people in Burlington, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

This project has had many individuals attempting to block its implementation but it appears that the pipeline promoters have prevailed at each stage, keeping the project moving forward.

The pipeline is viewed in general as a major necessity for the energy infrastructure for the state. Advances in construction and technology have made the pipeline’s construction more stable and less likely to have a mishap. Also the pipeline is being laid in regions that are not highly populated or have large amounts of vehicular traffic to disrupt the infrastructure of the pipeline.
