Back in October, when the landmark Avon restaurant was burnt by fire, many in the region were hoping that the family-owned business would try to rebuild, even for the 2018 summer season. Unfortunately, that will not be the case.

Schneider’s Restaurant is set on a one-acre parcel of land located across the street from Sylvan Lake. It is expected that the property will be sold.

This comes on the heels of another landmark Jersey Shore restaurant closing last year, Giamano’s. Giamano’s, a family-owned business, closed after 32 years in business.

Schneider’s restaurant in Avon was gutted by fire in 2017.

The decision made by the owner, John Schneider, had a great deal to do with his own assessment of what it would take to rebuild the restaurant, considering the current economy and state of the restaurant industry. He said, “I have this gray hair and I don’t have 20 years to start over.”

John Schneider indicated that he had been contacted by many developers, some who want to rehabilitate the partially charred building and others who say they will tear it down.

He will be considering the offers but ultimately is looking for someone who will build something that will be an asset to the borough.
